Week 9, 16-19 March: How did changes in art reflect new Renaissance ideals?
Monday: -Michelangelo -Da Vinci This week, we're going to get into more detail about the lives of specific Renaissance artists. Did these individuals really influence this time period? Did the Renaissance happen over night? Today, we're going to look at art from both Michelangelo and Da Vinci, and discuss why their work is linked to the Renaissance. Tuesday: -finish background readings Today, we're going to finish the background reading on select artists and the Renaissance as a whole. Wednesday: -assessment review After yesterday's gallery walk, you all should have a good idea of how art reflected Renaissance ideals. We'll go over some key terms and ideas in class. The rest is up to you! Thursday: -assessment Week 8, 9-13 March: The Renaissance......How did changes in art reflect new Renaissance ideals? Learning Objectives: This week, our goal is to learn about the push towards humanism during the Renaissance. We will do this by reading passages about art, and the societal structure of Europe during the Renaissance. Monday: -introduction -background knowledge -website review In groups, we're going to read background content on The Renaissance to gain a better understanding of what happened, and why ideals started to change in Europe. I'm going to speak with each of you about your websites. Monday: -finish Crusade inquiry project -website creation discussion Learning goals: Complete Crusade inquiry project and be able to tell the difference between a Muslim and Christian perspective. I hope everybody had a fantastic break! Today, we're going to work on wrapping up our Crusade inquiry project, and then discuss the final assessment (you're going to build a website!) for this unit. Tuesday: -Crusade website -Log-in instructions Learning goals: You will develop a website that answers the essential question about the Crusades we decided on as a class. This website will be made using Weebly.com. This is an individual project and will help me see what you know about the Crusades. Please find the rubric attached below. Most of you are on the fourth component and working steadily. Teamwork, again, has been excellent so far. Today, your goal is to finish the mini-project (speech, newsletter, or poster) by the end of class. Understand how point of view affects history and how events are viewed. Today, you're going to be researching both Muslim and Christian views on the crusade. How did their differing views affect what was written about the crusades later? Well done last week, everyone, well done. As I read through your essays, I'm struck by some of the connections you all have made. While you're working in groups on background knowledge, I will be meeting with each of you to discuss your essays. Tuesday: -essay revisions -website forum discussion reminder -Crusade inquiry project We've finally made it beyond the Black Death....hooray! Let us now dive deep into the Crusades and look at the perspectives of Christians and Muslims, kings and subjects, and historians and students. Today, we will begin a Crusade inquiry project that will require immense teamwork. It is up to you and your group to stay on task, and find the information you deem important. As you're walking around looking at your colleagues artwork, look for the symbols they used to describe the event. For this essay, use the following question as a starting point: What symbols (or symbolism) did your colleagues use to highlight the impact of the Black Death on Europe, and the rest of the world? This four paragraph essay is due on Friday, 30 January. Tuesday: -essay and vocabulary reminder -individual essay meetings Today, we will work on our essays in class. I will meet with each of you to discuss your outlines and direction of your writing. Is anything worth dying for?) Today, we are going to begin a unit on the crusades and their impact upon the Middle East and Europe, and how that impact can still be felt today.
